Petroleum technologists work in all sectors of the oil and gas industry. Depending on where they are employed, they may oversee well production and production technicians, or they may supervise pipeline technicians, process technicians, or instrumentation and electronics technicians.
Petroleum technologists must have a thorough understanding of all aspects of the sector in which they are working. For example, petroleum technologists working at the well site need to be familiar with all drilling operations. They supervise hydraulic fracturing, completion operations set up, and equipment installation.
